Announcing les Catégories Officielles

Dear Club Members:

Many photographers have asked me, "Monsieur Président, what will the catégories officielles (the official categories) be for the Mars Madness photo contest?"

Well, dear cyclists, the members of the Académie have held many long discussions on this topic. We have drunk many bottles of fine French wine, studied many photographs, and given long thought to the Acadédmie's principles of Vérité, la Beauté et la Bicyclette. Films of  la nouvelle vague française were watched and discussed. It was a most wonderful experience, which we will always treasure.

At the end of this process, held at the Académie's luxurious headquarters in ... well, let's not say where ... the members emerged with the following official list of categories:

• Most French -- The photo which best exemplifies France or the French People in any way.
• Vérité -- The photo which best exemplifies Truth
• Beauté -- The photo which best exemplifies Beauty
• La Bicyclette -- The best photograph of a Bicycle
• Vélo française -- The best photograph of a French bicycle
• Grand Vitesse -- The best photograph illustrating high speed bicycling
• Le Tour -- The best photograph of bicycles and bicyclists with a tower
• Personnes -- The best photograph of people
• Amitié -- The best photograph exemplifying the friendships found through cycling
• Humour -- The best photograph of a humourous situation
• Écureuil Bleu -- The "Blue Squirrel" award for the most curious photograph

The members of the Académie hope these categories serve as inspiration as you ride and take photographs au mois de Mars. Bonne chance et bonne photographier!

Many readers have asked, "Who is this Président of the Academie who fills our computer mailbox with such marvelous and numerous messages email and blog posts?"

So many of you wish to speak directly to me, to say merci!, to ... well, perhaps not all wishes should be expressed out loud.

Ah, dear reader, I wish I could reveal my true identity. Hopefully I can someday do so.

For now, I must thank Monsieur CampyOnlyGuy for graciously providing the means to bring you news of the Mars Madness contest.

Anonyme though I must be, I will continue to work diligently to provide you with information and inspiration as you prepare to ride so many miles in Mars.

Although the weather here is somewhat inclément (but perhaps I reveal too much!), my spirits are high. I remain committed to the Academie's principles of Vérité, la Beauté et la Bicyclette.
