Well, dear cyclists, the members of the Académie have held many long discussions on this topic. We have drunk many bottles of fine French wine, studied many photographs, and given long thought to the Acadédmie's principles of Vérité, la Beauté et la Bicyclette. Films of la nouvelle vague française were watched and discussed. It was a most wonderful experience, which we will always treasure.
At the end of this process, held at the Académie's luxurious headquarters in ... well, let's not say where ... the members emerged with the following official list of categories:
- Most French -- The photo which best exemplifies France or the French People in any way.
- Vérité -- The photo which best exemplifies Truth
- Beauté -- The photo which best exemplifies Beauty
- La Bicyclette -- The best photograph of a Bicycle
- Vélo française -- The best photograph of a French bicycle
- Grand Vitesse -- The best photograph illustrating high speed bicycling
- Le Tour -- The best photograph of bicycles and bicyclists with a tower
- Personnes -- The best photograph of people
- Amitié -- The best photograph exemplifying the friendships found through cycling
- Humour -- The best photograph of a humourous situation
- Écureuil Bleu -- The "Blue Squirrel" award for the most curious photograph
The members of the Académie hope these categories serve as inspiration as you ride and take photographs au mois de Mars. Bonne chance et bonne photographier!
